Project Manager – Manufacturing Equipment Installation

Position Overview

Borinquen Container Corporation is expanding its manufacturing operations and is seeking a Project Manager to lead and coordinate the installation of new corrugated packaging manufacturing equipment at its Hatillo facility.

This role will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing projects related to the installation, integration, and startup of new production equipment used in the manufacturing of corrugated cardboard packaging products.

The Project Manager will work closely with engineering, maintenance, operations, and external vendors to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to operational and safety requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

  • Lead the planning and execution of projects involving the installation of new manufacturing equipment for corrugated packaging production.

  • Develop detailed project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.

  • Coordinate all phases of the project including design review, procurement, installation, commissioning, and startup.

Equipment Installation & Integration

  • Manage the installation of industrial equipment such as:

    • Corrugated converting machinery

    • Packaging production lines

    • Conveyors and material handling systems

  • Coordinate mechanical, electrical, and control system integration.

Vendor & Contractor Management

  • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers, contractors, and service providers.

  • Manage contractor schedules, scope of work, and deliverables.

  • Ensure installation work meets technical specifications and safety standards.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Safety teams to ensure successful project implementation.

  • Communicate project progress, risks, and milestones to plant leadership.

Commissioning & Startup

  • Support equipment commissioning, testing, and validation.

  • Ensure systems are ready for production operations.

  • Coordinate training for operators and maintenance personnel.

Budget & Timeline Control

  • Monitor project budgets and timelines.

  • Identify risks and implement mitigation plans.

  • Track progress and provide regular project updates.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all project activities comply with OSHA, environmental, and plant safety regulations.

  • Promote a safe working environment during construction and equipment installation activities.


Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field preferred.

Experience

  • 5+ years of project management experience in manufacturing, industrial, or equipment installation environments.

  • Experience managing industrial equipment installation or plant expansion projects.

  • Experience working with contractors and equipment vendors.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of industrial equipment installation and mechanical systems.

  • Experience with manufacturing production lines or packaging equipment is highly preferred.

  • Ability to read technical drawings, layouts, and equipment specifications.

Project Management Skills

  • Experience with project scheduling tools (MS Project, Excel, or similar).

  • Strong organizational and planning skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and stakeholders simultaneously.

Communication

  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.


Preferred Experience

  • Experience in corrugated packaging, paper manufacturing, or industrial converting operations.

  • Experience with plant expansions or capital equipment projects.

  • PMP certification or formal project management training.
